Office Hours
Though we’ve transitioned to a asynchronous, paced format for lessons, sometimes synchronous interaction is still best. Thus, I will be holding “office hours” according to the following schedule:
- M-day weeks
- i.e., weeks that have an M-day on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
- 0930–1023 MDT (i.e., M3) Monday
- 1030–1123 MDT (i.e., M4) Wednesday
- 1330–1423 MDT (i.e., M6) Friday
- T-day weeks
- i.e., weeks that have an M-day on Tuesday and Thursday
- 0930–1023 MDT (i.e., M3) Tuesday
- 1030–1123 MDT (i.e., M4) Thursday
- 1330–1423 MDT (i.e., M6) Thursday
These periods align with our scheduled class meetings so there is at least one session that you can attend each week without conflicts.
In addition, I will hold an additional office hour during the following time:
- 1900–2000 MDT Tuesday
Again, this time should not conflict with other courses, but might be more conducive to those of you in different time zones.
Meeting invitations will be posted in the General channel on Microsoft Teams.
This evening (Tuesday, 31 March) will be the first session of office hours (1900–2000 MDT).
If it seems like additional office hours would be beneficial, then I will happily schedule them. I’m starting with four hours per week because my prior experience teaching online suggests that many students do not need to attend office hours regularly to be successful.
As a reminder, you may attend any session of office hours, including those during other sections’ meeting times. I will be available to answer questions, but will not be “teaching” content – i.e., I will not have an agenda of my own to cover.
Office hours are optional. There is no expectation that you attend them.
If more than one student attends, then I will record and post the session so that everyone can review what was discussed later if that would be beneficial to others. If only one student attends, then I will answer questions, but not post the recording – i.e., I treat the office hours as one-on-one extra instruction (EI). If no one attends, I will cancel office hours after 15 minutes.
Office hours will be canceled after 15 minutes when no one attends.
Finally, please remember that I am available to schedule individual meetings, particularly for issues not suitable for group discussion (e.g., individual grades). All you need to do is send me a meeting invitation to block the time on my calendar.
